File preflight
Image resolution preflight checker
Enter pixel dimensions manually or read them from a local image. The browser calculates effective horizontal and vertical resolution at the intended placed size and flags common preflight risks.

CALCULATED LOCALLYProduction calculations are estimates. Verify critical dimensions with your printer or finishing provider.
Method
How to use this tool
- 01
Choose an image file to read its dimensions locally, or enter pixel dimensions.
- 02
Enter intended placed width and height plus the target resolution.
- 03
Review the limiting effective PPI and aspect-ratio warning.
Assumptions
What the math assumes
- The full raster image is placed without cropping unless aspect ratios differ.
- Pixels are treated as square.
- The selected file is decoded locally and is not transmitted.
Production limits
Verify before output
- Pixel dimensions cannot reveal focus, sharpening, noise, interpolation, or compression quality.
- Vector content and embedded image resolution inside PDFs are not inspected.

Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The browser reads only the local image dimensions for this calculation; the site has no upload endpoint.
What does effective PPI mean?
It is the number of source pixels available for each inch at the size the image will actually occupy in the layout.
