Method
How to use this tool
- 01
Enter the interior page count and paper caliper per leaf.
- 02
Choose the binding style and optional case-binding allowance.
- 03
Use the estimate to draft a cover, then confirm against a bound dummy or supplier specification.
Assumptions
What the math assumes
- Two printed pages equal one physical leaf.
- Caliper is entered per leaf, including coating.
- Perfect-bound width equals leaf count multiplied by caliper; case-bound allowance is added as entered.
Production limits
Verify before output
- Adhesive, compression, humidity, thread, endpapers, and board construction can change the finished spine.
- Saddle-stitched books do not provide a square printable spine.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find paper caliper?
Use the paper manufacturer’s technical sheet or measure a representative stack with a micrometer, then divide by the number of leaves.
Should cover pages be included?
Normally no for a separate cover. Count the interior pages that form the book block, then follow the binder’s cover specification.
